Gavin Morrison, Flute

Gavin Morrison studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Royal Academy of Music. Since then he has worked as a freelance flute player touring all over the UK, Europe and further afield.

Gavin’s interest in contemporary and Avant-Garde music has led him to take part in many UK, European and world premieres and to be part of broadcasts on BBC Radio 3, RTE and German radio. He has worked for the Chameleon Arts Orchestra for more than twenty-five years.

Nick Cartledge, Flute

Nick is one of the most versatile flute players of his generation, excelling in classical, jazz, pop and commercial music. He studied the flute at the Royal College of Music in London. During his time there he won the Tagore Gold Medal and made his Wigmore Hall debut. He was the first ever flautist to win the Royal Over-Seas League music competition.

Nick works widely as a freelance orchestral musician, soloist and chamber musician across the world. He is also in demand as a session flautist for films, TV and albums and regularly records at major London studios. Nick is also in demand as a composer/arranger.

Susan Busby, Oboe

Susan was one of the founder members of the Chameleon Arts Orchestra having joined as 1st oboist soon after finishing her studies at Trinity College of Music.

Her varied freelance career has included West End musicals; Dorset Opera; Regency opera; The Belmont Ensemble; The London Wind Quartet; The Mallard Oboe Trio & her latest venture the Kuduo guitar & oboe duo. She has also had the opportunity to perform many concerti including the Frost concerto composed specially for her.

Susan teaches oboe at Kew College alongside running her own private teaching practice.

Sylvia Ellison, Oboe

Sylvia’s musical training began at the Junior Department of the Royal Academy of Music and continued at the University of Southampton and post-graduate Advanced Study Course at the Royal College of Music.

She enjoys a varied freelance playing career on oboe, oboe d’amore, cor anglais and occasionally bassoon. This has included solo recitals, concertos, chamber groups, a wide range of orchestral playing, shows, recordings and a number of first performances. 

Sylvia has been a Practical Examiner for Edexcel since 2000, and has a busy instrumental teaching practice in Surrey and Hampshire. She particularly enjoys running chamber music groups for both adults and children.

Gary Holdsworth, Clarinet

Gary studied the clarinet with his father, Frank Holdsworth, former Principal Clarinet with the Bournemouth Sinfonietta. After gaining a Mathematics degree in 1985 from the University of East Anglia, Gary pursued a musical career, continuing his clarinet studies during 1986 with John Reynolds at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

As a freelance player Gary has worked with the BBC Concert Orchestra, English National Ballet, Carl Rosa Opera Company, London Concert Orchestra, and was Principal Clarinet with the Moscow City Ballet Orchestra, with whom he toured extensively between 2001 and 2004. He has played Principal Clarinet with the Chameleon Arts Orchestra since 1992.

Neil Hickling, Clarinet

Neil Hickling studied clarinet and 18th century clarinet with Keith Puddy at London's Trinity College of Music. He also holds a Masters degree in performance from the University of Surrey. 

As an orchestral musician Neil has worked with many leading conductors in symphonic, opera and theatre settings, and as a founding member of the clarinet quartet Ensemble 4 he has performed across the UK and abroad. 

Sarah Price, Bassoon

Sarah studied the bassoon at the Royal Academy of Music and the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. She won the bassoon prize at the RAM in her second year, was a finalist in the Shell/LSO competition and received awards in competitions in Prague and Munich.

She then returned to London to build a freelance career which has included work in most of the major orchestras of England and Wales and trials for permanent positions, including Principal of the LPO, LSO and BBCNOW. She now divides her time between orchestral playing, chamber music, examining, coaching and teaching.
